  • Having traveled and also exposed to on/off stage music and dance in the region and internationally from many cultures for most my life, I have noticed the decline of variety and innovation in our off stage night spot and and party dancing in Barbados. In fact there are many more spectators than dancers standing on the dance floor, in comparison to 20 years ago. Also that male/female dancing is disappearing
  • While a good effort has been made to establish African, Latin, Jazz, ballroom, and ballet these seem to prepare students for planned stage performances and not for normal spontaneous dancing to varied atmospheres and music which has become sometimes non-existent. This trend is causing too many specialized night spots, where people of specific tastes are never exposed to variety in music, dance and people.
  • Global Dance hopes to fill this void with exciting variety and togetherness for those who prefer this as I do. Those who sometimes enjoy the exciting, spontaneoeos, feeling of being given a temporary 'stage' smack in the middle of approving fellow dancers.

DANCE THIS SUMMER AND ALWAYS!

with 'Latin/Funk/Zook' dance classes at Divi Southwinds Christ Church, Tuesdays 7-8.30 pm.

These sessions were requested by young onlookers to my style of dance they are not exposed to here, originating out of my travels and dance in North & South America, Europe, English & French Carribbean and music from around the world. It is an effort to restore variety, art, style, manners, self innovation and gender harmony in our informal dance and music for those who desire such... as I do. Too much of our night life music (lyrics) and dance is promoting excessively sexual and often vulgar behaviour in teenagers and adults alike. Black Eyed Peas, J. Lopez, E. Iglesias, Michael J, Kassav, as well as selected Carribean music (Zook, Modern Latin) & off the Rick Dee's top 40 are a few of the icons, plus African, and Middle Eastern inserts will be played. These dance sessions will try to prepare dancers for a variety of music, venues, atmospheres, security issues and limited space which 'show dance' usually does not. Sessions are $60/mth. Tuesdays 7 pm in the Divi Southwinds members club starting August.
